London upholsterer sitting pretty after EuroMillions win

An upholsterer from Islington celebrated his EuroMillions win believing it was all an accident.

Mehmet Ozer joked with a friend that any win would be in fate's hands. He said, "I have genuinely always believed one day I would have a big win. On the night of the draw I was having a coffee with a friend and we were joking about how, if fate decided it, we could win 'by accident'. This is one accident that I am very happy to have had."

Mehmet screamed with delight when he discovered the £303,465.20 win even though he was home alone. Recalling checking the numbers on his iPhone he said, "I looked up the winning numbers and was astounded to see that on my third line I had matched not one, two, three or even four numbers but five numbers as well as the Lucky Star.

Disbelief

"I just couldn't believe my eyes. I stood up, then lay down, stood up again, screamed loudly, went out on the balcony to get some fresh air then back in the room all the time thinking, 'my goodness, that 'accident' has actually happened!"

At this point Mehmet didn’t even know how much he'd won. "I saw that six other people in the UK had matched five numbers plus a Lucky Star and that we were each walking away with £303,465.20, and then I started to scream with joy again! It’s fabulous to know that there are five others who will also be celebrating a win the same as mine."

Mehmet has run his own upholstery business for almost three decades so despite the exciting news he set off for a full day of work. He immediately started making plans for the win and celebrated by booking a flight to Rome for the following weekend.

Beyond travel plans Mehmet intends on staying firmly at home. "I'm originally from Turkey but London has been my home for more than 30 years so I have no intention of leaving. Until now I have always rented, this EuroMillions win means I can finally buy my own home in the city that I love so much, it's simply magical."

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
