Glasgow dad celebrates a mega £1Million National Lottery win
A father of 5 has scooped an incredible £1Million on The National Lottery’s Lotto game – after winning £3.70 the day before.
Robert Cameron’s winning journey began when shopping in his local Asda. He said, “I’ve played The National Lottery since it began but hadn’t bought a ticket for a year or so. I always thought it would never happen to me but when I passed the [National Lottery] counter, I thought of the recent £195Million EuroMillions jackpot winner from the UK.”
The next day, the 55-year-old from Glasgow checked his account to see he had won a grand total of £3.70. Not to be deterred – he popped back to Asda to try his hand with 2 Lucky Dips for that night’s Lotto draw.
The next morning, Robert checked his tickets on The National Lottery app and got quite the shock. He said, “When I looked at first, I thought it said £1,000. I was still half asleep, so I looked again and thought ‘no it’s £100,000’. It took a third look for me to realise I was a millionaire. I even Googled the winning numbers to double check.”
After calling The National Lottery line and verifying that he was indeed a millionaire, a very ‘surreal’ moment, Robert couldn’t wait share his success and tell his youngest son the news.
Robert said, “I have a great relationship with my sons, but I am always joking with them so when I told my youngest he didn’t believe me at first. It took me half an hour to convince him it was real. I couldn’t quite believe it myself. I think I’m still in shock.”
“I was then worried about keeping the ticket safe and making sure I didn’t lose it, so I put it inside a picture frame behind the photo. I didn’t even want to leave the house with the ticket still sitting there!”
Robert’s advice to hopeful National Lottery winners? He said, “Anyone can win The National Lottery. You just need to buy a ticket and hope that the stars align like they did for me. I never thought it could happen to an ordinary person like me and it did.”
Robert’s winning numbers for the Lotto draw on Saturday 30th July were 07, 16, 17, 19 , 33 and the Bonus Ball was 12. The other main ball drawn was 57. Robert bought his winning ticket at Asda on Rothes Drive in Maryhill.
