Lotto jackpot winner donates £1Million to local MS centre

Lotto jackpot winner Peter Congdon has made a life changing donation to charity. The Truro winner has given £1Million to the Merlin MS Centre in Cornwall.

When Peter won his £13.5Million Lotto jackpot in June 2015 he pledged to support the local MS charity which means so much to him. The donation, which will build a hydro therapy pool, will be a lasting memory to his late wife Rosemary who had Multiple Sclerosis for more than 30 years.

Peter said, "To watch your loved one struggle with a condition like MS is incredibly difficult and it is great that there are places like the Merlin Centre which offer treatment and support to those who need it.

“As soon as I won I knew straight away that I wanted to do something to help this important charity improve the lives of other people in Cornwall with MS and I'm thrilled that they will be able to use the money to build a much-needed hydrotherapy pool."

Generous gift at show

Peter announced the donation and handed over the cheque at the Royal Cornwall Show. At the show charity volunteers were selling raffle tickets to win a Land Rover Discovery Sport which Peter had also donated to help the centre with its fundraising.

Sarah Snell, from the Merlin MS Centre, said, "This is an incredibly generous gift from Peter which will make such a difference to the lives of people across the county, not just with MS, but with other health conditions too. It has long been a dream of ours to have a hydrotherapy pool and thanks to Peter, this dream can now be realised."
