Lucky gran set to buy first home

A lucky grandmother from Wedmore in Somerset is set to buy her first home at the age of 67 after striking it lucky on Lotto.

Mary Ellis was overwhelmed when she realised that all her six Lotto numbers matched those on Wednesday 15th July to seal her a life-changing £443,337 share of the jackpot. And the retired grandmother said it was a shop assistant in the local store who had to calm her down whilst they checked the winning numbers for her!

A former care assistant, Mary says she has played the same numbers, a combination of special family birthdays and dates, twice a week since Lotto started over twenty years ago. And now she plans to put the money towards a new car, travelling the world and buying her first-ever home.

Mary said, "After renting for years, it would be amazing to finally own my own home. It won't be far away from the current house though because some of my children and grandchildren are nearby and I would like to stay close to them."

The mother of four, stepmother of three and grandmother of seven, has also begun to celebrate her win with a family meal at the local pub. Mary plans to treat the family as well as take a trip to Ireland to visit one of her sons who lives there.

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,400 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
