Caviar and a ‘man cave’ for Lanarkshire’s lucky £1Million winner
A retired HGV driver from Lanarkshire jokingly asked for caviar with his sausage butty after learning he’d become a National Lottery millionaire.
Alastair ‘Ally’ Gilmour, 57, made the request after scooping an incredible £1Million Lotto prize in the draw held on Saturday 28th June 2025.
The day after the draw, Ally asked his daughter Siobhan, 34, to pop over and help confirm the amazing win with The National Lottery. She was in a cafe picking up breakfast when he called and asked him if he wanted anything. He replied: “A roll with a square sausage and some caviar. Don’t you know I’m a millionaire?”
Ally, who has played Lotto since the game launched over 30 years ago, has already written a wish list. He and his wife Anne, 57, have bought new cars – a pair of matching Volkswagens.
Another priority is a new garden cabin, or, as Ally, likes to call it, a ‘man cave’.
Ally said, “I’ve been wanting somewhere to socialise in the garden for years. It's part of Scottish culture to have your friends come for a beer or two in the garden, for a laugh and some TV.”
Recounting his big win, Ally said he checked his National Lottery account after the draw. He said, “I saw that the numbers matched up and just sat there staring at it. It’s safe to say I couldn’t sleep after that.”
Once the win was confirmed, he couldn’t contain his excitement. He said, “I went out into the garden and shouted, ‘I’ve won the lottery!’ at the top of my lungs. I wanted the whole world to know. It was an incredible feeling.”
Ally and Anne’s daughter and grandson are also set to benefit from the life-changing prize. Ally said, “It’s not just about me – it’s for the whole family.”
