A truckload of cash for Marcin

A truck driver from Rugby has won the top prize of £350,000 after buying a £1 Lotto HotPicks Lucky Dip. Marcin Jedrzejewski, 40, found out about his life-changing win while delivering essential supplies during the coronavirus pandemic.

Marcin was chatting with his mum from his lorry cab while taking a break at a service station when he found out he was a National Lottery winner.

Marcin said, “I work night shifts as a self-employed lorry driver, delivering all over the UK, and always call my mother at the end of my shift or during a break. I was logged into my account while in the lorry park and I couldn’t believe what I saw.

“I was resting so FaceTimed my mother in Poland. I told her I thought I had won but I wasn’t sure how much. She kept asking ‘how many zeros, how many zeros?’ I checked out the top prize, but I kept thinking it couldn’t be true, it must be a joke.”

Marcin finished his Sunday night shift, having travelled across the South East delivering more food supplies, before calling The National Lottery to claim his prize on the afternoon of Monday 8th June. He said, “It had been a long weekend of driving delivering food and drinks across the UK.”

Marcin has already got a solid plan in place for spending his win. He’s now overdue a 40th birthday celebration, which he’s planning once coronavirus settles down and things are more normal again.

“Every Christmas and birthday I travel to Poland to celebrate with my family. This year would have been extra special as in late May it was my 40th. But when the lockdown lifts and borders open, I will have an extra special party to celebrate my birthday and the win. At the moment, I will just keep working and delivering.”

He’s also going to be getting a place of his own. Marcin said, “After years of renting, I am going to buy a house in my new home town of Rugby.”
