Life changing

London man almost gives away winning card to his mum

A man from East London is celebrating a big win on a Scratchcard from The National Lottery GameStore. The lucky man bought his winning £100,000 Red Scratchcard at the local newsagents on a bit of a whim and almost gave it away to his mum.

Peter Smith, 33, who is a carer for his father, only bought the Scratchcard on a whim after visiting his gran. He is looking forward to being able to treat his family with his new found wealth.

Peter said, “We stopped at the local shop for a drink and on the way in I asked mum if she fancied doing a Scratchard, my treat. I’ve no idea why I decided to play that day, perhaps fate had a hand?”

Coming out of the shop, Peter made a performance of shuffling the two Scratchcards before jokingly offering them to his mum to pick one. Chuckling at their silly joke, the mother and son played the Scratchcards standing outside the shop.

Winner

While Peter’s mum announced there was nothing on hers, Peter was busy double, and triple-checking, that the three matching symbols really did mean he’d won £100,000.

“I handed the Scratchcard to mum and asked her to check that it really was a top prize, when she said I was ‘jammy’ I knew I was a winner.”

Heading home Peter and his mum were still laughing when Peter showed his father the winning Scratchcard. Taking a look at the Scratchcard he was shocked into stunned silence, a shocked silence that was also the response from Peter’s granny when he told her the good news.

“I’ve only told my immediate family about the win and to be honest, they all seem to be in a greater state of shock than I am. I’m not sure why I am so calm, it’s not every day you win £100,000 but I’m certainly enjoying the experience.”

Generous

While most of the win has already been invested for a rainy day, Peter is looking forward to making sure those around him also enjoy the win.

“I am a carer for my dad and while we are a happy family there’s not a lot of money about for extra treats. This win will enable me to pay off all the bills so we don’t have that stress hanging over us anymore and also enjoy a fabulous day out for all the family. We will take a cab to the West End, enjoy a slap up meal and maybe take in a show, just really treat ourselves for a change.”

As well as looking after family, Peter will also be treating himself. “I’m a really keen gamer so will be putting my name down for an Xbox One X when it is released but my biggest hobby is militaria. I have a modest collection of military memorabilia but now I can collect more actively.”

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
