Frank wins a truckload of cash

A birthday meal to remember and a dream holiday in Australia (when it’s safe to do so) are both on the cards for a retired HGV driver from Cornwall after he won a National Lottery Set For Life prize of £10,000 a month for a year.

William Beard (known as Frank) turns 68 on the 3rd of August. Each year the Saltash resident celebrates his birthday with a meal at a restaurant with his mate Ian, whose birthday is the day before.

Unfortunately, last year’s celebration was one Frank would rather forget – he was mugged on the way home from the restaurant. But after winning £10,000 a month for a year on Set For Life, he says this year’s birthday bash will help banish memories of the incident.

He said, “I was mugged for my wallet and phone, so that is really a birthday I would prefer to forget. Hopefully, this one will be quite the opposite! Ian and I will book a meal again – and yes, I’ll be footing the bill!”

Frank buys a Set For Life Lucky Dip ticket for every Monday draw and checks them in a newsagent in Saltash on Wednesdays. At first he thought he had won £1,000 a month for a year, but when he realised he’d scooped an even bigger prize he was astounded.

He said, “The staff in the store thought I had won £1,000 a month, which would have done me nicely, but when I rang Camelot and realised it was £10,000 a month, I was doubly delighted. It still hasn’t really sunk in yet.”

As well as the slap up birthday meal with Ian, Frank is hoping to book a trip Down Under. He said, “I would love to fly to Australia to visit my niece, Diane, who has been there for 30-odd years. When travel restrictions are eased and we can travel again, I will start planning a dream trip.”
