Life changing

Dream Dubai trip for Scottish grandad

An East Kilbride grandad is looking forward to the holiday of a lifetime after winning on EuroMillions Mega Friday. Arthur Howard toasted his £1Million win, with his wife Emma, and looked forward to seven nights of luxury in Dubai.

The taxi driver who, because of the win can finally retire, immediately traded in his cab for his dream car, a sparkling white Audi.

Arthur said, "Winning a million as well as a dream-holiday to Dubai is quite unbelievable but it might start to feel real on Friday when I pick up my brand new Audi! It was the first thing I went to buy as soon as I found out. On my way back I picked up my wife from Marks and Spencer. She was worried because her pound was stuck in the trolley but she doesn't need to worry about the odd pound now."

The shock of winning was so much Arthur had to call the National Lottery line twice to confirm he was a winner. "When I first phoned and heard the words 'congratulations you're a millionaire' I went in to complete shock and told the call handler I would have to hang up and give her a call back."

Loud speaker

One of the couple's three sons also struggled to believe the news so Arthur came up with a plan to convince him. He explains, "I told him and he wouldn't believe me so we called the claim line back, putting it on loud speaker this time, and she said it again ‘you are a millionaire'. It really was quite something."

Arthur was able to celebrate his 74th birthday as he toasted his fortune and looked forward to enjoying the life changing win.

"We'll be paying off our mortgage and I'll have great pleasure handing over my taxi to my son. It's going to take some time for this news to sink in but we’ll make sure we enjoy every minute."

EuroMillions Mega Friday draws take place on the last Friday of every month. In January seven lucky players each banked £1Million and a life changing prize. They will all fly business class to Dubai and stay in the world famous Burj Al Arab Jumeirah Hotel. A helicopter ride, a safari and desert dinner, as well as dinner at the Al Mahara Restaurant are also part of the prize.

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
