CELEBRATING PARALYMPICSGB
ParalympicsGB athletes attended an exclusive Homecoming event organised by The National Lottery and saw performers including Madness, Clean Bandit and Sigma pay tribute to their phenomenal success, bringing the Tokyo 2020 Games to a euphoric end.
A Homecoming for heroes
Team GB’s triumphant athletes were given a chance to celebrate, show off their medals and enjoy performances by artists including Nile Rodgers, Laura Mvula and Anne-Marie, at a glittering Homecoming event organised by The National Lottery.
Team GB swimmers thank National Lottery players
A triumphant Team GB Olympic swimming squad has returned to the UK to a hero’s welcome from family and friends. The squad – which won an historic 8 medals in Tokyo including 4 golds – was keen to thank the British public and National Lottery players for their part in their record-breaking success.

At the 1996 Olympic Games, Great Britain and Northern Ireland finished 36th in the medal table with one gold medal. Then in 1997, National Lottery funding for elite sport began.
At the conclusion of the Tokyo 2020 Games, we had won 1,053 Olympic and Paralympic medals.

George Peasgood’s bronze medal in the Tokyo C4 road cycling time trial represents an extraordinary milestone: the 1000th medal won by a British athlete in the Paralympic and Olympic Games, summer and winter, since the introduction of National Lottery funding.
