London 2017 brought the nation together when the athletics World Championships came to the capital. Through play you supported our British athletes as they picked up a whopping 45 medals across the competitions, but it’s not just elite sport that benefits from National Lottery funding...

Every time you play the National Lottery, you contribute to 1000s of community sports projects, clubs, events and causes across the UK.

Each year we celebrate these great causes at the star-studded National Lottery Awards which take place in September. We’ve pulled together a selection of the sports shortlist who have all gone above and beyond to make sport possible in their local communities – all thanks to you.


This project helps to inspire and train people with disabilities to pursue a career or pastime in sport. More than 300 people have qualified as fitness professionals and delivered 70,000 fitness sessions with disabled clients.

Dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge. This Aberdeenshire dodgeball club are providing an accessible environment to get active and build the local community through. Lindsey-Anne explains what free sessions from the club meant to her after losing her job, “Dodgeball has remained a constant in my life and kept up my morale during a really difficult time."

Parkrun's Visually Impaired (VI) Scheme helps support visually impaired people be more active. Through exercise, volunteering and social events, parkrun provide a safe environment for visually impaired people to run safely and socialise.
